Today was our day to visit Versailles Palace. We ate breakfast at our new favorite spot and the waiter remembered everything about us from two days before down to every detail of our orders. We were pretty blown away. Our trek today covered the public transit bases. We started on the metro, transferred to the train and finished up on the bus. Georgia is a great help with the navigation of these trips and two heads is definitely better than one. The guys have always tended to leave everything to me so it is really nice to have someone who pulls their phone out and helps me figure things out. The palace is absolutely huge. The buildings are all decorated in gold leaf overlay and inside the great halls, enormous military paintings and sculptures go on forever commemorating all the French military victories. Many of these pictures enshrine Napoleon and all his military feats but King Louis XIV is the guy who made all this happen. Started with a little hunting lodge and became the mighty palace it is today. The grounds are beautiful with gardens and tree tunnels. There are fountains everywhere but they are only turned on at assigned times and we did not get to see them in action. There is a huge body of water at the base of the gardens called the Grand Canal. It is really beautiful. They have little take away cafeterias in many of the tree tunnels and we stopped at one and had sandwiches and coffee. I'm so tired today and just can't wake up. I don't feel my best but I'm hanging in there because that is what you do. After lunch, it started raining pretty hard and we headed back. The rain was cold and the temperature started falling and all of us began to feel chilled. We came back to our place and David and I both crashed and took a nap. Afterwards we went to dinner to a Brasserie not far from our place. Good food. Everyone loved their dinner except me. I ordered pizza and I didn't love it but it was still good. Dessert looked incredible but my body does not want sugar at this point.
Another travel day is in the books. I'm so happy to be here but hoping I feel a bit more like myself tomorrow.
